alright, so as much as i love to write and given that i have the perfect outlet for expressing thoughts and ideas to a wider audience [thanks, blogger...no this is not a plug], i have decided to finally appreciate what's right in front of me. yes, blogger, i am guilty of taking advantage of you. but no longer.

i am doing a trial run here...an experiment in writing on social conditions and thoughts on general human interactions.

being a server, i think i notice these even more so than i usually do...which, for those of you who know me...is quite a lot. so here we go.

of particular interest...

This new design particularly caught my eye. Perhaps I'm just a little biased, especially as I'm currently sitting in a coffee shop [okay you caught me...Starbucks] but I thought these cups gave a very chic, homey feel to the traditional coffee/tea cup. The company also carries out the selected design motifs throughout their range of packaging. I think these would fit quite well in a cupcake store...have you noticed the craze for cupcakes?! So much of what I've seen in these shops is a reversion to retro, boho, chic elements.

This blog is for me to show you what I've been inspired by whether it be travel, design, music or world events. A year in England is complete and it's weird to think that a couple weeks from now will mark a year since the man at customs said "welcome home" but I will never come down from the high of inspiration I experienced in England.

So, cheers! I hope you enjoy and are inspired yourself.

what is this?!

EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE BABY

xxx

By Blogger Elle Ho, at January 7, 2009 at 6:45 PM

is it...nooo it couldn't be...

oh. but it is. in the spirit of my computer, Simon, being down on his luck not running or kicking this terrible habit of giving his beloved owner the spiraling bar-o-death, i resort to the good ol' desktop at home. there's something nostalgic not only in this black three-piece technology that inspired me to pull up and revive this passion of writing. though you wouldn't know it by my last entry date, would you?

so here we go. there's just wayyyy too much to be said about the remainder of my travels here so just know this: i had the time of my life and miss it terribly but it a happy, not sad, way. many, many great memories, pictures, laughs, friends, experiences, people, cultures and discoveries.

just a quick entry in light of the the christmas spirit. i was in south coast today and there was a guy playing guitar in crystal court. it was surprsingly amazing in the z-gallerie-can-wait-5-minutes kind of way...which i don't know if you know...is a big deal. the sound of his voice and guitar and volunteer/friend drumming on some sort of wooden box pervaded the rush of the mall and it was just the breather i needed from the stuffy racks and some stuffy people. if you're interested check him out...so there's my little plug for this local guy named Ray Jordan.

that's all for now :)...ah, that felt good. happy holidays :)

'let's now wait 'til the next family reunion to get together...' [reference? ;)]

LONDON!

By Blogger Elle Ho, at October 16, 2007 at 5:28 AM

London callled!! it was absolutely amazing....snog and the city went out on the town and for only being there a day and a half, we really saw the town!! london bridge, st. paul's cathedral, big ben, london eye, westminster abbey, buckingham palace and my personal favorite...notting hill!! we did indeed stop by the travel bookstore where hugh grant worked in the movie Notting Hill and it was just as cute and charismatic :) i wanted to ask so badly, "do you have winnie the pooh?" only to be matched by the response of..."no, we're a travel book shop. we sell travel books."

me, christine, rachel, frankie and elina first went to the drydock for one pound pints...we decided that the atmosphere there is really our type of place...really cool and chill....felt like one big living room....definitely a really fun place to be...causal, laid back, cheap drinks, friendly people. it was great. then we went to headphone disco last night and here's the thing: you put on headphones in the otherwise silent club...and you have two channels to pick from so everyone is literally dancing to the beat of their own drummer. it's amazingly awkward when almost the entire club shouts the chorus and you are busting a move to the drum solo....we met some cool people and had a really great night!

student sale at topshop tonight....everything 20% off which definitely helps but isn't enough to go big...still a little pricey. what they failed to mention to me, lauren and louise is that if you show the upstairs counter your receipt...they give you a free box of chocolates!! how dare they let that slip up!

that's it for now ;)

awww. I miss double decker buses. But another thing, be glad that you can actually get coffee there. A coffee here is always espresso sized and it usually costs about 6 euros. Kind of a rip. Give me my Starbucks swimming pool full of coffee for 3 dollars.

wahhhh G Line double deckers!!!

By Blogger Elle Ho, at October 8, 2007 at 3:30 PM

where to begin, where to begin. i decided i'm not waiting this long to write again....haha. there's too much to be said to write as often as i delete emails.

modules, or, classes are going very well. design here is creativity and ideas-based. they really emphasize the strenth of good ideas and a new way of thinking then they teach you how to design whatever that may be. so technical skill comes second to creativity which i like a lot. we spend a lot of time in small or large groups trying to get inspired, throwing out ideas, and having discussions. it feels a lot like what i want to do in the professional world.

there is a very important loophole. at this place called wrapid in the student union [which, mind you, has about two bars and three dance clubs with convenience stores and a student store that sell basically anything, including alcohol. and don't forget cadbury chocolate. two for 65p. amazing. at wrapid you get a free coffee with you wrap and you can refill it for free. christine, lauren and i also spotted a wrapid in the city centre. the plan is this: get a coffee, walk with it, refill it downtown while shopping and then again later that day before class, then again for the walk home. safe cup. rise. and repeat. genius i say. all for the love and glory that is coffee.

it is true what they say, leeds has an impressive music scene. lauren, my flatmate phuong and i went to see Stars play at this small and personable music venue called the Brundenell Social Club in Hyde Park. they were incredible with amazing lyrics and beats complete with glowing flowers over the band's instruments. who could ask for more?! other than to ask the people standing in front of us to bow their heads haha. another thing we noticed too is that there were a huge gathering of men at the stars concert! if anything they were the most enthused! it was great to see. my other experience with the music scene hails from the days of parachute pants and military hair cuts. vanilla ice, though a bit less flamboyant, played at this club called gatecrashers and yes, he did play ice ice baby. it was so great, unlike vanilla ice's stage demeanor...he still acts 19.

Rachel, Lauren, Christine and I have declared that we are 4 women from Snog in the City. We meet up quite often for drinks or coffee to discuss the happenings of Leeds and it's always a great time! Aiden, Big, Steve, Harry? We had a girls night in last night complete with tv, making pizza, girly magazines [but british so they're well dressed], sweets, youtube, and more of our talks.

We are headed off to London tomorrow morning! The first weekend trip of hopefully many. Thrift store shopping and more walking is in order. Kyle got me "City Walks: London" for my birthday and that will be so great to have!

Is it weird that when i see a double decker bus in London it will remind me of Davis? and the other way around? haha

cheers!

if underwear is called pants...then what are pants? trousers. oii!
